This event was held on 16 November 2022 at Kellogg College. It was a moderated event of presentations and interactive discussion, followed by a drinks reception.
Discussion of the criminalisation of the human body drew on the intersection of medicine, policy, and law. Speakers: Dr Elliott Carthy (Specialist Registrar in Forensic Psychiatry for Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust, lecturer at St Edmund Hall, and Parliamentary Scholar to Baroness Sheila Hollins, House of Lords), speaking on the history of psychiatry and homosexuality and the tension between criminalisation versus medicalisation; Ms Bakita Kasadha (Qualitative researcher, Medical Sociology & Health experience Research Group, Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences), speaking on infant feeding practices among HIV positive women; and Ms. Saarrah Ray (DPhil in Law Student and non-stipendiary lecturer in Law at The Queen's College), speaking on reconceptualising the 'designer vagina' as violence against women, under the law in England and Wales.
